From Food Truck to Digital Delight: Transforming Jayy's Online Presence

Leading a UX Overhaul to Boost Engagement and Sales

Jayy's, a beloved local food truck and catering service, sought to expand its reach by establishing a robust online presence. As the sole UX & Web Designer, I lead the creation of a responsive e-commerce website that encapsulated the brand's vibrant identity and streamlined merchandise sales. This transformation led to a significant increase in online merch orders, enhanced user satisfaction, and a stronger digital footprint.

of customers interviewed wanted an easy-to-navigate menu with clear visuals.

Mobile compatibility was crucial, as many users preferred ordering on-the-go but it was not a priority for my clients at the moment, since they do not have a permanent location and would not want to confuse or frustrate their clients. Users also mentioned having difficulty inquiring for a catering order, one of Jayy's biggest offerings for their business.

Design & Development

I developed low-fidelity wireframes that prioritized intuitive navigation and clear user flows, then brought them to life through interactive prototypes that incorporated the brand’s existing typography and visual identity.

To ensure a cohesive user experience and streamline future development, I created a foundational design system. This included typography styles, color palettes, UI components, and states all aligned with the evolving brand guidelines.

Trade-offs & Constraints in the Web Dev Process

  • E-commerce Integration: Integrating Gelato for on-demand t-shirt printing presented initial challenges, especially inconnecting the store. This was eventually resolved, ensuring a streamlined process for merchandise orders.

  • Dual Store Setup: Setting up two stores on the same site to handle both merchandise (via Gelato) and homemade spices/sauces required innovative solutions to manage logistics and user experience effectively.

  • Platform Choice: Squarespace was chosen for its robust e-commerce capabilities and ease of use. This decision involved a trade-off between customization flexibility and development speed.

Outcomes & Reflections

The new website boosted online orders and elevated Jayy’s brand visibility. Its mobile-first design met users where they were, and the simplified ordering flow made it easier for fans to engage.

This project reminded me that great design starts with listening. When we align with real user behavior, we create experiences that are both usable and impactful.
